• A “junior” is the son of a “senior”
• A second is the name “used over” – If you have the same name as your grandfather… you are that name the “second”.

A man named for his father omits the Jr., after his father’s death, although there are instances where the Jr. is retained.

Spell out all suffixes and titles, like Junior or Doctor, and use Roman numerals for anything beyond “the second.”

It is not proper etiquette to spell out “the second”. You would instead use:

James Benson II

Mr. Henry Davis White, 3rd

A clergyman’s may be Rev. Thomas Murray.

A bishop’s is: Bishop of New York

A professor or a judge uses the prefix Mr. before his name. It is not correct to have “Professor” Bowling, or, “Judge” Baker.
