In event of a very large wedding, the invitations are prepared so that some of them request the attendance of acquaintances at the church only.

It is customary to invite general acquaintances to a church wedding and to limit the number of guests for the reception, but the point is to be careful in drawing the line, because it may give offence to invite some and omit others.
